[Oe List ...] Ed Feldmanis wants to stay in touch on LinkedIn

I think something weird is going on with this-no one would give a listserv
address as his email address when joining LinkedIn, so I think it is
something else happening with this. I did join Linked in a couple of years
ago, because it was recommended as the professional version of Facebook
(I've steadfastly refused to be on Facebook, because I can't deal with more
than one of these). Prior to this Feldmanis request, I've not had people ask
to connect whom I did not know except for a couple of times, and when I
didn't know them it was usually that we had some other connection and they
were just trying to build their connections with people from a certain
business sector. I do send invitations to others I know when I see their
names on the "others you may know" list in LinkedIn and have reconnected
with a lot of folks I'd lost track of over the years.
If Linked in were doing this instead of the individual subscriber, they
would very quickly lose all credibility.

Concerning LinkedIn:
With greatest respect to Ed, let me give you my take on this LinkedIn thing.
Like Marsha, I have also received a request in the name of Ed "to stay in
touch on LinkedIn"; I have also received requests from people in other parts
of the world to do the same thing - including from my son in New Zealand.
Somebody can correct me if I am wrong - but my sense is that Ed and the
others do not initiate these approaches to third parties; this is a social
networking site marketing ploy that all of them (Facebook and the rest)
indulge in for as long as they can get away with it - once they have access
to your contacts list.
So when I receive these pleas to join, I ignore them and consign them to the
waste bin.
I am afraid that I don't have Marsha's natural courtesy - which I remember
with great affection from years back.
Love to all,
Adam Thomson, Dover England.

Hi Ed,
Thank you for the invitation. I am not currently part of LinkedIn, and not
ready to join right now. If that changes, I will be glad to get connected
through that medium. In the meantime, I hope things are well with you.
