Oh, dear Mary. You have connected with those who understand what it means
to live with the angel of death on their shoulder!
Your letter to us about Richard was so moving. It only added to Fred's
understanding about his illness and that some folks live with a more clear
picture of what life/death is about. It seems to take some of the rest of
us a longer time to get the picture! Please keep me in touch with Richard
if that makes sense.
I will send yet another story to you. Please decide if it is appropriate to
share with Richard. Love, Nancy
I sent this message to Dennis, the astrologer that Fred saw twice in the
last 15 years. Maxine Norton works for him so I know he heard about Fred's
death and I wanted him to know how he helped to influence Fred's life story.
Dear Dennis,
I imagine that Maxine may have shared some of this story with you already.
perhaps it has even come up for you on its own. I do want to share it with
you very intentionally because it became a cornerstone for Fred in the last
months of his life.
If you recall, Fred visited you for the first time around his 60th birthday
because of a gift certificate given him by his colleagues at NIAOM.
Although astrology had not yet played a central role in his thinking, he
was an adventurer and was quite ready to include a visit with you in his
journey. If I remember well, his focus question was about his future as an
elder - what would his journey entail and how would it look? The short
answer from his chart and from your explanation was that his life would
continue to be of service for the next 14 years and that he could not think
about going off into the forest or a cave at this time. Occasionally over
the next few years, he would pose the question, "I wonder what comes after
the 14 years?"
As Fred's body became immobile and his breathing began to take more energy,
he would recall that first visit with you in 1995-96. He realized that his
life without service ..... he couldn't imagine how that would look, nor did
he want to live beyond being of service..
As you know, Fred passed into "another world" at the age of 74 years, 14
years after his visit with you and his chart. The awareness of his
planetary/universal connection became an integral part of his life's story.
I can see him smiling now as the pieces of this story came together in a
wonderful flowing tapestry for him.
On Wednesday evening, September 8th, he knew the end of his earthly life was
coming soon. Our family and community members gathered around the next
evening for stories and singing. Although Fred could hardly breathe, even
with his bipap machine, he sang with us 4 of his favorite songs, then
honored each person with his words gratitude, images and hopes for their
lives. He wanted to "finish his work" before the moment came and he did
so. His life was one of a combination of the magical and the mystical - he
died so peacefully at 11:25 that evening as our family gathered around his
bedside.
This only shares a snippet of Fred's life but a critical one. If you would

Thank you Dennis for being a part of Fred's life and mine. I will always be
grateful for the piece of his tapestry that you offered him those many years
ago..
With love and appreciation,
Nancy
