I was 10 years old and I was at Kemper.
I can't remember what time of year.
I remember the excitement in the air, carried around by seemingly everyone there.
I remember the huge circle with the wedgeblade.
(the symbol is Key)
I remember my intuitive self, reflectively saying inside,
"This makes sense. The world is huge. Not everyone is a Christian or understands that mythology. This makes sense."
I was excited, and did not know why.
and that did not matter to a ten year old.

1972 was a huge transition.
We turned toward the Secular/Global.
We turned away from quality with the children.
The curriculum written after 72 for "phase one" went downhill. Children and youth got in the way and were seen more and more as an impediment. The Student House was begun around this time. Because service to the mission was so important, and Please Hear Me Well, I do not think that this was done intentionally (I certainly hope not)... because service to the mission was so important, various aspects of our corporate life became more cult-like.

We turned away from the large groups living together because we opened up more Religious Houses around the world.
We turned toward checking things off from lists as a way of holding ourselves accountable, as a way of validating our actions. Some of us turned away from deeper reflection and taking the time for it.
Maybe not right away, but 72 seems to be when we turned away from fiscal responsibility. Eventually this combined with the 80's huge decline in donations (to all non-profits) to cause fiscal turmoil.
We turned toward diversity, even as some of us feared the hell out of it. Houses / locations opened up around the world. My parents were assigned to open the Davao House.

We turned toward our shadow selves, even though we didn't know it yet.
We turned toward the future, we felt the wave, we created the wave, we were the wave, and we Ran into the Future, into the Wave.

I remember the banner of the Globe, the Earth. (Do I remember rightly?)

I was excited. And we started singing more diverse songs. I love our singing.
