Marshall said: "I'd like to invite all of us to look elsewhere in the world
and among younger generations for strange and surprising signs of new life,
creativity, and innovation. And for strange new forms of a NRM and a NSV
that others are creating from the mud and debris of a collapsing and
exhausted old order."

I have no idea how to approach that, where to start, but this articulates
something I've been feeling ever since reconnecting with you all. There are
two spiritual communities with which I feel a genuine resonance: the o:E and
a group called the Rhythm Society. It has been wrenching and fascinating to
me to watch this year as those in one group die off and in the other new
babies are being born. I have had months where three o:E colleagues have
died while 3 Rhythm Society babies were born.

On a purely spiritual level, this gives me hope because on both sides I see
people deeply committed to exploring the truth of our relationship with the
divine and the implications of that for daily life in this world. However,
wherever I look, I do not see the same foundational understanding of
service, of serving the world, that existed in the order. I do see people
who have been on their spiritual path long enough to have reached the end of
any meaningful self-focused journey, but then they are there with nothing
else and no idea where to go now. There are some stabs, but they mostly fall
into the current NGO industrial complex where Americans give money.

Although I appreciate the efforts of those archiving our legacy, for me the
tragedy is not the loss of papers or stories but rather the actual work -
the analysis, the research and the service that has the potential to
transform people, communities, institutions and the world. How do we
transfer that to the next generations so it can continue on?

"You don't have to take God to anyone. God is already with everyone. So,
rather than taking the approach that you need to take the truth out to
people who need it, adopt the approach that you need to go find the truth
that others have and you are missing. Go be evangelized." from
