OMG! Sorry I've only just got around to responding to this - Happy Birthday, Stuart! I'm pretty bad at organising my diary with birthdays etc, but that's a resolution for 2012.
Thanks for the annual Christmastide letter - it's much appreciated.
News from here: I've taken a break from the (most enjoyable) B Th for a few years in order to deal with personal/domestic issues. I was getting credits and distinctions, but other things interfered - like depression, diabetes 2, and the energy required to keep on tutoring high school students - mainly Maths and Science, especially year 11 and 12 subjects, plus a couple of students with English. I always check out if they are Terry Pratchett fans. In 2010 I had a Year 12 Specialist maths students who was a Pratchett fan - we spent a lot of time talking about Maths very broadly and deeply - she wanted someone to chat with about such things. BTW I attended Nullas Anxietas III in April in Sydney - I'm told that the Latin is pretty suspect - with Sir Terry himself as a guest - I now have a signed Pratchett book to sit alongside my signed copies of three Dune novels. "Going Postal" is on ABC-TV in 2 weeks time. We saw the filomed version of National Theatre production of Nation last year.
I also took a break from working at the football this year - I go back next year. Some people are quite amazed at how knowledgable about Aussie Rules these days, but it would be a boring job, ushering, ticket-checking etc, often watching the game along the way, if I hadn't watched and learned. They don't kick the ball as much as in soccer, but more often than in thugby. I'm trying to convince some of my ICA/ToP colleagues that the dynamics of a football club and team are analagous to the dynamics of organisations etc.
Saw some good music lately. We saw Cliff and the Shadows on their 50th anniversary tour - still good, enjoying themselves, great rockers, and tremendous stage chorography. More recently The Moodly Blues. Last year Jean-Luc Ponty, Chick Corea and others.
"We" includes Sue Cole - we go back to the mid-60s - there's a photo of us at a Methodist Ladies College social in 1962. Cringe! We bumped into each other at uni in the late 60s, then met again about 2 years ago at the launch of a book about the Australian SCM.
If you go to <ToP-GIFL> you'll find the main other thing I'm quietly into. Karen Clover Newkirk is CEO of our ToP team, and also chair of ICA Australia.
Hope you're both well - good to read about Mary's OT and similar work.
Cheers
Frank
