Hubert Fulkerson: We spent the early 80s together in Kwangware ( ICA’s urban slum projects in Kenya). Hubert is stuck in my
memory bank as someone who was willing to do any job. In Kwangware we had a new
Harambee school (community managed) plus a clinic in a part of the slum area
called Kabiro. Hubert and George and Virginia Black were assigned to watch over
both the school and clinic which meant they lived at the site. It was a huge
task and one that require they be present day and night. I always felt that
Hubert was the back bone of the assignment and never flinched or asked for a
better assignment. In those days, we would have called him a saint.
