Dear Colleagues
 I am forwarding an email that I sent Sandra on January 17, 2011.  Since it was a combination of a delayed 'Thank you' for her kind response to my Christmas Greeting, and an offering of comfort, I did not send it in as part of the prayer vigil.  Then I saw LiDona's wonderful pull-together of the over whelming awe-filing responses. They are magnificent out-prourings of heart-felt diversities of care. I then felt my email to Sandra was an appropriate response to go with the collegial expressions.  With One Love that embraces us all.  Joe Slicker.

Subject: Gratitude for your Aliveness

Dear…DearSandra:  Please accept myheart-felt ‘Thank you’ for your kind response to my Christmas Greeting.
         Yourattitude of gratitude is an awe-filing expression especially in these days of yourpain, chemo, sudden-turns-for- the- worse, and on and on.  Gratitude floods ones heart with theawareness of being Alive.   
         Livingand dying go on, but being Alive is beyond and encompasses both.  We see in our Aliveness that ‘Lifesimply is...Being simply is… beneath the comings and goings of forms.’
         Thegift of awareness also allows us to step back and watch the pain and sufferingas well as the elations and reliefs that continually rise and fall, in andout.  This step back also sees theJoy of being Alive.
         Itcomes with the peace that continually flows its presence.  So relax.  Enjoy the flow. Oh, yes, you laugh and cry, you hurt and feel relief; you might think ‘Why?’or explode into ecstasy, but in every moment you can sing Halleluiah! (“Praisefor what is.”) 
         TheAll, that is the continually coming of wholeness, is Love in action.  Its Joy of Aliveness is present to everyone and thing. 
         Attachedis a ”Morning Affirmation” of Love that I hope may be of help.  Start with ‘Be loving, kind, andcompassionate with myself..’  Gointo stillness and watch how the flow of forms of darkness and luminosity continuallytake place.  Don’t make it heavy.  Lightly watch the buoyancy of theirdance as each flickers by.
         Talkto yourself.  Thank yourself forbeing Sandra.  Play that out anyway you like.  Giggle and ache.   Be tender and patient withyourself.  Carry on with Robert andcomfort him.  Play with your nursesand hospital staff.  Cry and scold ifyou must.  When all this gets to betoo much, continue or drop into stillness.…or take the morphine, and dozeaway.   All and all, Love theone called Sandra.
         Remember,that all creation groans to be the Aliveness you are.           OneLove, Joe Slicker
