[Oe List ...] Bill and Barbara Alerding

Three weeks ago (June11) Charles and I stopped by to see Barb as we returned 
home to Bloomington from the UMC Indiana Annual Conference ordination service. 
We arrived at the Spring Mill Meadows nursing home at about 2:30 pm. Barb's 
roommate told us that Barb was likely in the "small dining room -- go to the end 
of the hall and enter through the door at the left." There were two patients, 
attended by two aides, all sitting at a table, where Barb sat in a wheelchair. 
Her aide kept urging her to swallow her food and finish her meal. Barb's 
response was "My mother always told me to chew every bite 40 times." When we 
left (about 45 minutes later) Barb was still chewing. That exercise confounded 
the conversation somewhat, but she was quite upbeat and certainly was pleased to 
have us there.

Bill went by to see Barb later in the day and called the next morning to thank 
us for our visit. I don't think he was aware of his heart trouble at that time.

The nursing home is located across the street from St. Vincent's Hospital where 
Bill is recuperating, but the two places are not otherwise related (except 
through Bill and Barb).

George,
 
Thanks so much for this update and your care for the Alerdings and for  those 
who name them as "beloved community."  It's good to know the Gibsons  and others 
are close by.  We have many fond memories of Barb and Bill  dating back to 1968. 
and trust both will recover well and soon be back  home.  Shall follow your 
advice for "snail mail."  Is Barbara in the  same hospital?
