Evelyn,

Just heard Jasmine Flower. Not the one. Will keep looking. Kenny G's CD (2002?) might be available in Taiwan and an MP3 will do my class fine. Tnx again.

Dear Jaime,

I mentioned this tune and was told that it has political over tones, but I don't know for which party. I will try to find out this weekend.

Had used the project tune for Earth Day in my Oral English class for Chinese learners, and proceeded to use some of our movement tunes and others, from Brahm's lullaby to Chariots of Fire, writing new words where appropriate. Been appropriating and affirming Chinglish, just so the students feel free to use the language without constraints of syntax (literal Mao's: "Good good study, day day up," study well to move ahead, is a good example). On Nancy and the Songaia crowd's inspiration, quickly did one on Simple Gifts:

SIMPLE GIFTS

Its a gift to be simple, its a gift to be free,
Its a gift to belong where our bodies want to be,
And we find ourselves in the place of delight
In the land of fullness, of light that’s bright.

(Refrain)
When life’s simplicity is gained,
We bow and we bend, we will not be ashamed,
And we turn and we change, we will be just right,
Yes, we turn, we change, to the bright new light.

It’s a gift to be gentle, it’s a gift to be fair,
It’s a gift to wake up, to breath the air,
We walk every morning in the path that we choose,
It’s a gift, a play, we can never lose. (Refrain)

It’s a gift to be humble, it’s a gift to be kind.
It’s a gift to listen, to hear another mind.
We speak our feelings, and we come out true,
that’s a gift for me and a gift for you. (Refrain)

It’s a gift to be loving, we are giving to all,
Like the rain in spring, it splashes on its fall.
We use this gift, and we come to see,
That life of loving in China be. (Refrain)

Tnx Nancy. Got 200 Chinese students singing this and 19 other songs. Am providing the music on MP3 format as well, (or burn a CD on my Mac) and the only tune missing is the Hai Ou project tune.

Any assistance will be appreciated

Thanks, John. Unfortunately, can't seem to open the web here in Dong Bei.

Meanwhile, I do desperately need the title to the Hai Ou HDP song. Kenny G had a recording of it when he came to China but since his "Jasmine Flower" unfortunately got associated with the Jasmine social networking revolution, his pieces seems to have joined the censored list of music pieces.

If anyone has an MP3 recording of the piece (The Hai Ou project song - don't know if it is the same as the "Jasmine Flower"), would appreciate an assist, like, the next 24 hours?

Larry and Evelyn, the Wests, u still der?

Jaime

Colleagues:

Last night we saw a fantastic film on Public Television -- "Welcome to Shelbyville," the story of a small town in Tennessee undergoing major change. It's a documentary of how attitudes of black and white residents shifted with the influx of first Hispanics, and more recently Sudanese. It's a great story of a community coming to terms with diversity, and would be an excellent program with a group followed by a focused discussion. It's also playing in some theaters in Colorado.

You can see it online at http://video.rmpbs.org/video/1944965828/
