Reply to all: As I recall Phil's words about the many things that he
accomplished were "You can do anything as long as you don't care who
get's the credit." Yes, Phil worked long hours on songs. We all did
in the archives in the 1990's. I still have a very large document on
my computer which I have shared with other people including Larry
Philbrook. The scanner we used then was OCR and created many typos,
so Phil worked long and hard deleting duplicate songs and correcting
errors. You were more apt to find errors in the ones that are in some
other language than English. English was much easier to correct the
spelling. Currently we don't have an OCR scanner in the archives.
I usually try to stay out of these discussions on line because now I
am in a different position. I am trying to support the current work
on the Archives Legacy in Chicago. I am paid for 15 hours a week by a
government funded program of Catholic Charities to learn from other
not-for-profits (ICA) and work many additional hours in archives.
Archives is finding it very difficult to raise money for that part of
the Institute's current work because it is so difficult to raise money
(period) and because long time colleagues are more interested in the
current visible, "Oh, look what the ICA is doing right now." ICA
staff is really working hard to produce what the world needs right
now.
The ICA Board is currently meeting and I'm picking up Joyce (Ollison)
Sloane at the airport this morning. Grace and Peace to all of us.
