That's pretty amazing.  I've always thought of Russia as dwarfing everything
else.

And it's also interesting how it's changed-I hadn't realized it (Russia) had
shrunk so since losing its satellites like Central Asia.  Of course, they
seem to me to be still mostly in its thrall (or that of its mafia) even if
it isn't the USSR anymore. Does the 17 MM include all that ice or just the
permafrost?
