Thanks, Herman. I didn't know the Wood family well, and your  recollection 
helps me acknowledge and celebrate Susan's completed  life.
 
Suzanne McGuire died 9 years ago this month.The gift and  the loss of a 
daughter's life are profound extremes of human emotion. I  send Anne love.
 
What years was the North Shore House in existence?

I lived  in the North Shore house with Anne, David and family. Anne and  
David
decided to join the house and we found a mansion for rent in  Riverwoods,
near Deerfield, IL. David's credit got us the house, I doubt  that it was
fully disclosed that several families would move in. (We were  forced to
leave by local officials when our septic tank overflowed and went  into a
neighbor's field after an Odyssey.) 

Joy and I were Second  Priors. We figured that the Wood family children 
would
just come along and  go to the local schools. Susan wouldn't hear of it. She
said "You can't do  that?" My response was, "Why not?" but her parents
listened and the  children continued their schooling at their high school,
was it in Highland  Park?  

The Wood family children just went through the year with  their mouths open
at what these crazy Order people did. I remember that one  month Joe Mathews
made an appeal for money and the house dedicated half of  our food budget so
that month we fed ourselves for 12.5 cents per  meal.

Young Dave once mocked us by saying it was time for  his
"going-to-bededness."

Susan was beautiful and strong. I always  admired her. It's difficult to
think that one so young has passed. I'm glad  she passed my way.

Both Joy and I have an abiding love for all of the  Woods. They deeply
affected our lives.

Susan Wood...oldest daughter of Anne and David...died  this morning. She has
been fighting leukemia for months. She did get to see  her first
granddaughter before her death.
