[Oe List ...] Poorer, poorer, slower, slower, smaller, smaller by Bob Sab...

Just read the article. There's a lot to reflect on. No institution required
more than EI did (though it sounds that Sojourners at the beginning was
somewhat similar).

Later I work 60-80 hour weeks in a Wall Street law firm. That was demanding
as well, learned what all-nighters were about.

Later I was a lawyer and also served on 14 nonprofit board or committees.

Now there's a lot more of the monk in me. I guess I'm right on schedule.

True. I haven't read the article. I will.

I'll throw out a saying though before I do: "God will not give you more than
you can handle, but you sure can load your own ass up."

(Do we still talk that way?)

Absolutely correct. The article is excellent and true to my experience.

Seems like Bill's and Herman's responses were to the Thomas Merton quote (in
red below), not to the article.

Dear Colleagues:

I found this to be an interesting article. I couldn't help but wonder how
some of you would respond to it. Here is an exerpt and a link to the full
article is below:

"To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns,
to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects ...
is to succumb to violence. The frenzy of our activism ... kills the root of
inner wisdom which makes work fruitful."

To stay alive, we needed prophet, pastor, and monk.
