Dear Bill,
Thank you for your note and your ideas. We will follow through on the ones that we haven't tried yet.
There are some from the church my parents attend in The Woodlands, TX who come to visit on a regular basis, and they are wonderful to do so. And they do not have the global history, nor the common memory, and that is something precious to both my parents. Even my mother, with her fluctuations in memory, appreciates the common memory when she can.
The energy of spirit does indeed grow with use. And so it is.
Peace,
Jon Mark

Jon and Debra-- Wow! Just to think that your situation is just the tip of an iceberg for so many in your situation. Maybe, in the far future we'll have a government who catches the vision that what some corporations pay their CEO--or colleges pays their coaching staff--could be used in support of people like your parents. It may be that Obama-care may have provisions for such extreme expenses; let's be in hope that this is the case. I'm extremely doubtful that the ICA has any money to be used; the ICA interntional runs on fumes as it is. When the Order disbanded, I understand there was a division of some funds among those who were active at the time; most of us were not--such is life. The only suggestion that comes to mind is to appeal to some of the local service clubs--Lions, Civitan, Knights of Columbus, Business and Professional Women (BPW), and Masonic Lodge, Woodsmen of the World, American Business Clubs (AMBUCs) asking that a special event be dedicated for the support of your parents. One of them might catch the vision. Maybe your local church--or state organization--could have funds for such a purpose. Be sure to ask! One other appeal would be to the national alzheimer's organization. Perhaps something else will come to mind. When I does I'll let you know. I do plan to call your dad and visit. Does your church have some men who meet regularly for coffee. Perhaps they could be asked to bring the coffee to Tony, or invite him to be a part of their morning/weekly ritual. I'm sending you all of my spiritual energy. Use it us since the more you use the more I get back to share with others. Hello everyone,
My parents are in the midst of a large transition. My mother needs to move into an assisted living facility and my father will be moving to the same or into his own apartment. For 2 years we have had helpers coming to their apartment to assist with their various health needs, and now the level of care needed, especially for Ellery, has increased beyond our capacity to care for them both at the apartment.
>From the late 1980's until they retired my parents built their nest egg. The previous 6 years has taken much from that resource, and we are now at the point of needing to ask for assistance. I will be writing the Presbytery to ask for aid, and I am also writing you all to ask for ideas. Does the current ICA have any funding available for "former" members? And does anyone have other ideas for how my sister and I can best reach out for help?
The other thing I invite you to consider, especially if you were friends to my parents, is to call my father for a chat. He has been one of the main caregivers for my mother (she has Alzheimer's, in case you didn't know) and that job has left him fairly isolated from regular adult conversation. His phone number is 281-298-6113.
Thank you in advance for your prayers, well wishes and any ideas that might be able to assist Debra and myself. I hope that all former members of the Order have the financial and other assistance they need.
Sincerely,
Jon Mark Elizondo
